In the first round of the tournament in Australia beat Benjamin Becker of Germany Verdasco two sets to one 6-1, 6-7, 6-3.
And qualified Czech Radek Stepanek to the second round after beating Germany's Tobias Kamke 5-7, 6-1, 6-4
